Will John Calipari and University of Kentucky become a match made in heaven… Or will it become a bust like the Gillispie hiring…
Well, only time will tell of course, but my initial reaction is that it should initially bring some of the pride and respect back to UK basketball.
And as bad as it has been the last couple of years with Gillispie at the helm, it can only get better from here on out… Or at least you hope if your a UK basketball fan.

But, that being said there are some issues that need to be addressed before you can conclusively state that John Calipari and University of Kentucky will be a good hire.
The first issue with Calipari is his association with one of the most influential power brokers in basketball, William Wesley… AKA Worldwide Wes. Wesley played a key role in helping Memphis and Calipari reign in some of the top recruits in college basketball.
And then there was the issue with Calipari’s UMass team which was stripped of their final four appearance because of star Marcus Camby receiving improper cash payments. Calipari was never implicated and he said that he had no knowledge of the situation. As a matter of fact, Calipari has NEVER been involved in or implicated in any NCAA rules or recruiting violations. But overall and generally speaking, Calipari gives the impression that he is a slick snake oil salesman.
In a interview when asked about John Calipari and University of Kentucky hiring him… Westwood one basketball analyst Pete Gillen said; John Calipari could (referencing the great salesman he is) sell snow in Hawaii!
So ultimately, and in the end, what does all this mean when it comes to John Calipari and University of Kentucky?
Did the University of Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart make the right decision this time around?
Well, once again, as stated earlier only time will tell.
But, and to put it all in perspective, here is a quote from a former assistant basketball coach of a major collegiate program. This was from an interview (paraphrasing);
He said that college basketball is 90% recruiting and that those that know how to recruit will have the most successful programs. He then went on to say that coach Calipari is a great recruiter and for that reason he will be very successful at the University of Kentucky.
Well, I agree with him.
I believe he will be successful at UK… And that he will bring the winning tradition back to UK basketball.
And I believe that UK will be in the hunt for the national championship almost every year with Calipari as coach.
As for the rabid University of Kentucky fanatics who live and die with UK basketball… And who’s whole life is centered around the CATS… Not to mention the importance the program has on the state of Kentucky… Where even the president of the University stated the significance the basketball program has on moving the state of Kentucky forward…
Lets hope that John Calipari and University of Kentucky basketball become a match made in heaven!
